Christmas Wonders is a free five-part Christmas Bible lesson series from Trueway Kids. Created for children aged 6–11, it combines faithful Bible teaching with exciting STEAM challenges, crafts, games, worksheets and activities.
Across five sessions, children will explore the events surrounding Jesus’ birth and early life—from Gabriel’s message to Mary to the family’s journey to safety. Each lesson points children to the central truth of Christmas: God sent Jesus, the promised Saviour and King.
Children won’t only hear what happened. They will ask questions, build, test, create, solve problems and discover more about Jesus as they explore each Bible passage.
What Does STEAM Mean?

STEAM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Maths.
Each session includes a practical challenge connected to an idea from the Bible account. Children might investigate how sound travels, build a stable resting place, create a chain reaction, explore reflected light or design a protective carrier.
The experiments help children investigate the world God has made, while the Bible teaches them about Jesus and the real events of Christmas.
Children are encouraged to predict, build, test and improve their ideas. There is no need to worry when something does not work the first time—every attempt is an opportunity to learn!

More Ways to Learn using Christmas Journeys

The activities use accessible materials and can be adapted for different ages, group sizes and settings.
The Five Christmas Wonders
Session 1 – A Message for Mary
Bible passage: Luke 1:26–38
God sent the angel Gabriel to Mary with an extraordinary message: she would have a son named Jesus, the Son of the Most High. Mary listened, asked an honest question and responded by trusting God.
Children will learn that God speaks to us through the Bible, and we can listen and respond to what He says.
Featured STEAM challenge: Build a cup-and-string telephone and investigate whether a loose or tight string carries a whispered message more clearly.
Session 2 – A Manger for Jesus
Bible passage: Luke 2:1–7
Mary and Joseph travelled to Bethlehem, where Jesus was born and laid in a manger. Although He did not arrive in a palace, Jesus was still God’s promised King.
Children will discover that Jesus came humbly and welcomes us through grace. We do not have to impress Him or earn His love.
Featured STEAM challenge: Design and build a small resting place that can support a baby model and remain steady.
Session 3 – Good News Spreads
Bible passage: Luke 2:8–20
An angel announced wonderful news to shepherds: a Saviour had been born! The shepherds hurried to find Jesus and then shared what they had heard and seen.
Children will learn that the good news is about Jesus, and it is news worth sharing with others.
Featured STEAM challenge: Build a domino chain reaction that carries a good-news message from the beginning of the course to the end.
Session 4 – Follow the Star
Bible passage: Matthew 2:1–12
The magi followed the star as they searched for the King of the Jews. When they found Jesus, they were filled with joy, bowed down and worshipped Him.
Children will discover that Jesus is the promised King, worthy of our worship.
Featured STEAM challenge: Use a torch and mirror to guide a beam of light around an obstacle and towards a target.
Session 5 – A Journey to Safety
Bible passage: Matthew 2:13–23
Joseph listened when God warned him to take Mary and Jesus to Egypt. He cared for his family during their journey and later brought them home to settle in Nazareth.
Children will explore how Joseph responded to God’s warning and faithfully cared for Mary and Jesus.
Featured STEAM challenge: Design a protective carrier that supports a model and keeps it secure along a short test route.
