Who is the Holy Spirit?

The Holy Spirit is not a spooky ghost or an impersonal force. He is God—the third Person of the Trinity: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

This lesson helps preteens understand that the Holy Spirit teaches, guides, comforts, helps believers pray, gives power to tell others about Jesus, and grows Christlike character in God’s people. Pentecost shows that Jesus kept His promise and that His followers do not have to carry out His mission in their own strength.

Why This Lesson Matters

Preteens often experience seasons of waiting, uncertainty, and wondering what God is doing. Pentecost helps them see that waiting is not wasted time. The disciples did not know exactly when or how Jesus would fulfil His promise, but they trusted Him and waited together. God kept His promise at exactly the right time.

This passage also gives children an important foundation for understanding the Holy Spirit and the Church. They discover that following Jesus is not something they are expected to do through willpower alone. God is present with His people through the Holy Spirit, giving help, courage, wisdom, comfort, and power for His mission. The lesson also helps children see church as a family of believers who learn, worship, pray, share, and grow together.
