Matthew 14:22–33 / Mark 6:45–52

Trueway Baby Bible lesson for ages 0–2

About This Baby Bible Lesson

This free printable Baby Bible lesson gently introduces babies and toddlers to the Bible passage where Jesus walks on the water and Peter steps out of the boat to go to Him. A noisy storm surrounds the disciples, Peter becomes afraid and begins to sink, but Jesus reaches out His hand and catches him. Through simple words, repeated actions, music, sensory play, and visual learning, little ones begin to learn one clear truth: Jesus holds my hand.

Designed especially for ages 0–2, this lesson focuses on connection, repetition, and early faith formation. Babies experience the Bible passage through movement, sound, simple signs, high-contrast cards, sensory play, and loving interaction.

The lesson presents the passage through simple action cards, including waving goodbye as the disciples sail away, moving arms like splashing waves, walking fingers across a hand to show Jesus on the water, pointing toward Jesus with Peter, using the Water sign, dropping hands down as Peter sinks, reaching out to show Jesus catching him, and finishing with a safe hug.

The lesson also includes a gentle Rocking Boat sensory activity. Babies can lie or sit securely on a thick blue blanket while an adult gently moves the edges to create a small rocking motion, helping them connect the movement of the boat and waves with the Bible passage.

Walk, walk, walk with faith,
Keep your eyes on Him.
When I’m scared, I trust in Him,
Jesus holds my hand.

Singing together supports bonding, rhythm, early language development, and repetition of the lesson’s key truth.

Parent Take-Home Connection

The parent take-home sheet reminds families that their child learned: Jesus is always watching over us.

It includes simple home ideas such as Splish-Splash, letting children safely splash shallow water while remembering that Peter walked on the water toward Jesus, and Safe and Near, letting a toddler step safely into a parent’s arms and receive a big hug as a reminder that Jesus caught Peter and keeps us safe. Families can also practise the Water sign and sing the lesson song during the week.
