Acts 9:1–19
Trueway Word Bible lesson for preteens (ages 8–13)
About This Preteen Bible Lesson
This free printable Bible lesson helps preteens explore Acts 9:1–19, where Saul travels toward Damascus convinced that he is doing the right thing by stopping followers of Jesus. But Jesus meets him on the road, confronts him with the truth, and completely changes the direction of his life. Saul is blinded, led into Damascus, and later welcomed by Ananias, who obeys Jesus even though Saul had been known as an enemy of the Church.
Using the Trueway Word W.O.R.D. Bible study method, preteens will Walk into God’s Word, Observe what the Bible says, Reflect on what it means, and Discover how to live it out. Designed for Sunday school, homeschool, family devotions, and church groups, this preteen Bible lesson helps children develop a biblical worldview centred on checking what is true against God’s Word, understanding grace, obeying Jesus when it feels difficult, and recognising that meeting Jesus brings real change.
The Big Question
How do I know if I’m wrong?
Saul was completely sure he was right. He knew Scripture, had support from religious leaders, and was willing to travel for days to arrest followers of Jesus. But he had misunderstood what God was doing and needed Jesus to show him the truth.
This lesson helps preteens understand that God’s Word is true even when our own understanding is incomplete. We grow in wisdom by reading the whole Bible carefully, asking what God is really saying, listening to faithful Christian teaching, and being willing to let God correct us when we are wrong.
What Kids Will Learn
- Being sincere does not always mean we are right.
- Our feelings and opinions are not enough to decide what is true.
- God’s Word gives us a trustworthy standard for truth.
- Saul was actively fighting against Jesus before meeting Him.
- No one is beyond the reach of God’s grace.
- Grace can reach people we would least expect.
- Ananias obeyed Jesus even though he was afraid of Saul.
- Courage does not mean pretending we are never afraid.
- Jesus can use ordinary people to show extraordinary grace.
- Meeting Jesus changes what we believe, how we live, and how we treat others.
- Following Jesus means becoming a new creation.
- God’s grace does not leave us where it finds us.
Why This Lesson Matters
Preteens are beginning to form stronger opinions about truth, identity, right and wrong, and what they believe. That makes Saul’s experience especially important. He was confident, serious, and convinced—but still wrong. This passage helps children understand that confidence is not the same as truth and that biblical faith includes humility, teachability, and a willingness to be corrected by God.
The lesson also gives children a strong picture of grace. Saul was not searching for Jesus; he was trying to stop His followers. Yet Jesus met him, changed him, and gave him a new future. At the same time, Ananias had to trust Jesus enough to welcome someone he had every reason to fear. Together, these examples help preteens see that grace can reach unlikely people, obedience can feel costly, and genuine faith produces real change.
