Matthew 19:13–15
Trueway Word Bible lesson for preteens (ages 8–13)
About This Preteen Bible Lesson
This free printable Bible lesson helps preteens explore Matthew 19:13–15, where people bring children to Jesus and the disciples try to stop them. Jesus welcomes the children, blesses them, and teaches that God’s kingdom belongs to those who come with humble trust. Through this Bible account, children discover that Jesus notices people others overlook, has time for them, and never treats them as an interruption.
Using the Trueway Word W.O.R.D. Bible study method, preteens will Walk into God’s Word, Observe what the Bible says, Reflect on what it means, and Discover how to live it out. Designed for Sunday school, homeschool, family devotions, and church groups, this preteen Bible lesson helps children develop a biblical worldview centred on grace, welcome, humility, thoughtful faith, and helping others come closer to Jesus.
The Big Question
What is the difference between childlike faith and immature faith?
Childlike faith is humble, honest, and willing to trust God while continuing to ask questions and grow in understanding. Immature faith avoids careful thinking or gives up when answers are difficult, but biblical faith trusts Jesus with both the heart and the mind.
What Kids Will Learn
- Jesus welcomes children and values people others may overlook.
- Children are never too young or unimportant to come to Jesus.
- Childlike faith is humble, honest, and ready to trust God.
- Faith and thoughtful questions are not enemies.
- Pride, exclusion, and unkind words can become barriers for others.
- Christians should help people come closer to Jesus, not push them away.
Why This Lesson Matters
Preteens may sometimes feel overlooked, dismissed, or treated as though their questions and concerns are unimportant. This Bible passage reassures them that Jesus sees them, welcomes them, and invites them to come honestly.
The lesson also challenges children to consider how their own attitudes and actions affect others. Jesus removed barriers and welcomed those the disciples tried to exclude. Preteens are encouraged to show kindness, include people who feel unnoticed, and reflect the grace they have received from Christ.
