Lesson Overview

Welcome to Quarter 2: Mission History (Part 1)—where children begin to discover that God’s mission didn’t stop in the Bible… it continued through real people, in real places, across history.

In this session, children explore Jesus’ command to “Go” and then step into the life of William Carey—a quiet shoemaker who believed those words were for him.

This isn’t just a story about missions.
It’s about helping children see that:

  • God still speaks
  • God still sends
  • and ordinary people still say “yes”

From a small workshop in England to the challenges of life in India, William’s story helps children understand that obedience isn’t always fast or easy—but it is always worth it.

What Children Will Learn

  • Jesus’ command to “Go” is for every believer
  • Mission happens both near (daily life) and far (the nations)
  • Obedience often begins with one simple “yes”
  • God uses ordinary people—not just leaders or experts
  • Faithfulness means continuing, even when it feels slow

📖 Bible Focus: The Great Commission

This session begins with Jesus’ final words to His disciples:

“Go and make disciples of all nations.”

Children explore what this really means—not just travelling far away, but living with purpose wherever God places them.

They’ll see that:

  • Jesus’ command is clear and active (“Go”)
  • His mission includes every person, every place
  • And His promise is constant:
    “I am with you always.”

🌏 Mission Story: William Carey

Children are then introduced to William Carey—not as a hero to admire from a distance, but as someone surprisingly relatable.

  • A shoemaker with a map
  • A man who asked, “Who will tell them?”
  • Someone who kept going when nothing seemed to be happening

They’ll discover how:

  • he felt called while living an ordinary life
  • he faced discouragement, loss, and slow progress
  • he stayed faithful, one step at a time

William’s simple phrase becomes the heart of the lesson:

“I can plod.”

This session helps children see that following God isn’t about being fast or impressive—it’s about being faithful.
