Luke 17:11–19

Trueway Word Bible lesson for preteens (ages 8–13)

About This Preteen Bible Lesson

This free printable Bible lesson helps preteens explore the Bible passage in Luke 17:11–19, where Jesus heals ten men with leprosy and one man returns to thank Him. Through this Bible account, children discover that Jesus hears honest cries for help, invites people to trust Him one step at a time, welcomes gratitude, and notices faith in unexpected people.

Using the Trueway Word W.O.R.D. Bible study method, preteens will Walk into God’s Word, Observe what the Bible says, Reflect on what it means, and Discover how to live it out. Designed for Sunday school, homeschool, family devotions, and church groups, this preteen Bible lesson helps children develop a biblical worldview centred on Jesus’ mercy, honest prayer, thankful hearts, and the good news that we do not need perfect words for Jesus to listen.

The Big Question

Do I need special words for God to hear me?

No—God listens to honest hearts.

Sometimes children may wonder whether their prayers sound “good enough” or whether God only listens to people who know the right words. The ten lepers did not give Jesus a long speech. They simply cried out, “Jesus, Master, have mercy on us!” They were desperate, honest, and real—and Jesus heard them. This lesson helps preteens understand that prayer is not about performing. It is about talking honestly with God, who welcomes our cries for help, thanks, questions, and trust.

What Kids Will Learn

  • Jesus hears people who cry out to Him.
  • Prayer does not need perfect words.
  • Faith means trusting Jesus enough to take the next step.
  • Jesus healed the ten men as they obeyed His instruction.
  • Gratitude helps us remember the Giver, not just enjoy the gift.
  • The thankful man returned to praise God and thank Jesus.
  • Jesus notices faith in unexpected people.
  • God welcomes honest prayers and thankful hearts.

Why This Lesson Matters

Many preteens carry worries, questions, or needs they do not always know how to explain. Some may feel unsure how to pray, while others may think they need impressive words before God will listen. This Bible passage reminds children that Jesus heard the lepers when they cried out from a distance, and He still welcomes honest prayers today.

The lesson also helps children think about gratitude in a deeper way. All ten men received healing, but only one came back to thank Jesus. Preteens will see that gratitude is more than good manners. It helps us remember God’s goodness and turn our hearts back to Him. This lesson gently invites children to trust Jesus, speak to Him honestly, and notice His gifts with thankful hearts.
