Acts 27–28
Trueway Word Bible lesson for preteens (ages 8–13)
About This Preteen Bible Lesson
This free printable Bible lesson helps preteens explore Acts 27–28, where Paul is being taken by ship to Rome when a violent storm sweeps across the Mediterranean Sea. For many days, the ship is battered by waves, the sailors lose their bearings, and everyone begins to give up hope. Yet Paul continues to trust what God has said. The ship eventually breaks apart, but every person on board reaches land safely, just as God promised.
Using the Trueway Word W.O.R.D. Bible study method, preteens will Walk into God’s Word, Observe what the Bible says, Reflect on what it means, and Discover how to live it out. Designed for Sunday school, homeschool, family devotions, and church groups, this preteen Bible lesson helps children develop a biblical worldview centred on listening to wise warnings, trusting God’s Word when circumstances feel frightening, giving courage instead of spreading panic, showing kindness, and believing that God is still at work when plans fall apart.
The Big Question
Can God bring good through storms?
Storms can feel frightening, confusing, and completely outside our control. Paul’s storm was real: the ship was battered for days, everyone lost hope, and in the end the ship itself broke apart. The Bible does not pretend that suffering is easy or call painful things good.
This lesson helps preteens understand that God can still be at work in circumstances we would never choose. God kept His promise that everyone on the ship would survive, gave Paul courage to help others, brought them safely to Malta, and used the islanders’ kindness and Paul’s ministry to bring help and healing. We may not always understand what God is doing, but His Word remains true even when life feels stormy.
What Kids Will Learn
- Confidence is not the same as wisdom.
- Wise warnings should be taken seriously.
- God can use the Bible, prayer, and wise people to guide, warn, and correct us.
- Paul trusted what God had said even when the storm had not stopped.
- Circumstances do not get the final word over God’s promises.
- Faith means holding on to God’s Word when life feels confusing or out of control.
- Fear can spread quickly, but courage can spread too.
- Paul encouraged the people around him instead of joining their panic.
- We may not be able to stop every storm, but we can choose calm faithfulness.
- The ship broke apart, but God’s promise did not.
- Everyone on board survived, just as God had said.
- Malta was not a mistake or outside God’s control.
- The islanders showed extraordinary kindness to people who were tired and in need.
- God continued to use Paul after the shipwreck.
- God can work through unexpected circumstances without pretending that suffering itself is good.
Why This Lesson Matters
Preteens are beginning to face situations they cannot control: changing friendships, family pressures, disappointments, fears about the future, difficult decisions, and moments when life does not go according to plan. Paul’s shipwreck gives them a realistic picture of faith that does not depend on everything becoming easy. The storm continued, the ship was lost, and the danger was real—but God had not lost control.
This lesson also helps children think carefully about how they respond when fear spreads around them. Paul could not calm the sea, but he could listen to God, speak courage, encourage others to eat, and keep trusting what God had promised. That gives preteens a practical biblical framework for difficult moments: listen carefully, hold on to God’s Word, choose courage over panic, show kindness to people in need, and trust that God can still work even when the journey looks nothing like we expected.
